On the weekend, I went to Liverpool. Very lively city with gorgeous architecture, record shops, book stores, cafes, and museums. Went on the “Magical Mystery Tour” which took us to the “Beatles” related places. Saw the football match “Liverpool vs Manchester” at an English pub. Took the ferry tour at Mercy River. Had a hard time trying to understand the Liverpool accent. All the very Liverpool experience…. had a great time at a fantastic city!

I have started my internship (work experience) at Nottinghamshire County Council from Monday. I am at “Sustainability” team under Environment Deparment.

County Council is like “Kencho” in Japan. The council provide services for the people living in Nottinghamshire County (about 1,000,000 people) . It’s my first time to work in a government, so I am excited to know how it functions and what kind of problems it faces.

“Sustainability” deals with all sorts of issues related to sustainable development, like climate change, energy, transportation, public awareness, etc. I will be involved in a project on deciding a green policy on sustainable procurement. I don’t know much about procurement, but because I am interested in sustainable consumption, it should be a great topic for me to work on. I am going to be working here for 4 weeks.

Ethical Consumer（「倫理的な消費者」）という雑誌を発見。隔月発行しているようですが、今回の特集は、「冷蔵庫」「コーヒー・サンドイッチショップ」「トイレの洗剤」「ペットフード」を買う時にどれを買ったらいいか？というものでした。毎回、違う商品にスポットをあてて、しっかりリサーチをした上でおすすめ商品をプッシュしたり、消費倫理に関するさまざまな分析記事やレポートを掲載したりと、興味のある人にはたまらない内容！ウェブサイトもありますよ。こういう雑誌って、日本にもあるのかしら？

そして、編集者たちが取り組んでいるもう一つのプロジェクトがこちら。Corporate Critic Research Database. 企業がどれぐらい倫理観を持って活動しているかが分かるデータベースです。私たち自身が企業の評価を１５段階で決めることができます。この情報をもとに私たちが商品を買ったり、企業が取引先を決められる、という素晴らしい情報源！
